Signs for the Homeless by Kenji Nakayama and Christopher Hope

Signs For The Homeless is a project in which the duo offers homeless from around their hometown of Boston, USA, $ 10 each, together with the possibility to have their cardboard signage recreated in a much more colorful and joyful version. The project is also documented online with a Tumblr page that presents before and after shots of the signs, as well as short interviews with each of the homeless people they create hand painted signs for. Even though the artists say that they are well aware that it doesn't immediately transform the panhandlers’ situation, they hope to raise people’s consciousness of the problem of poverty in the city and the people affected by it through their action. When replacing the old placards by new ones –unique and hand-lettered- the artists take cate not to re-write anything, leaving in any misspellings or wording that was on the original sign, and only adding artistic type in hopes that the new sign will be better noticed and increase the owners intake on donated change.
